Questions? We've Got Answers!

How do you collect my DNA?

Your DNA is collected through a simple cheek swab. The process takes less than a minute and is completely painless.

How long does it take to get my test results back?

Tests results take about 7-10 days on average to return to the office upon arrival of the specimen to the facility. At that point, it takes about 7-10 days for our staff to read the results and come up with your plan of care.

What am I looking at when I get my results?

You are looking at Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms or what we like to call SNPs! See below for more information!

What is Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP)?

A Single Nucleotide Polymorphism also known as a SNP, is a substitution of a single nucleotide at a specific position within our DNA.

SNPs are found in the DNA between genes. They can act as biological markers, helping scientists locate genes that are associated with disease. When SNP's occur within a gene or in a regulatory region near a gene, they may play a more direct role in disease by affecting the gene's function.

Do you sell my information?

What does Upstream Therapeutics look for in my DNA results?

We are looking at Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNP) in different areas of your DNA. Through our Pro 7 panel, we are able to focus on areas of methylation, neurotransmitters, mitochondria, detoxification, internal and external inflammation, and health precautions. A SNP can alter levels of how our genes are structured, expressed, and function. Yet, not all SNPs are created equally. Some SNPs can increase your risk for disease slightly.

Enough changes in a specific body system can cause problems. Some SNPs are present in very important receptors, enzymes, and other proteins in our body leading to everything from debilitating disease to slight decreases (and increases) in function of the gene’s product or expression.

In addition to SNPs, we can go a step further with our Nutrigen panel and look at your diet and wellness as well.

What do I do next now that I have read and have a basic understanding of my results?

Upstream Therapeutics can assist in coming up with a comprehensive care plan and help source more information and guidance based on how you would like to proceed with the information. This could be supplementation, IV drip therapy, or changes in diet and wellness as some examples.
